In the first class, we discovered lots of things based on the module 1 handbook. It was such an excellent opportunity to understand what we are going to learn and identify. The module 1 handbook is about "Seeing yourself and seeing your practice". Such as understanding and reflecting on my practices, contextualise and articulate what my practice currently demonstrates.
We shared thoughts about how we see and feel about our practices and how we think about them. Currently, I'm not sure how my practice is going, but I'm sure this module 1 course will help me a lot. Since the age of 11, my only practice was focused on being a ballet dancer and developing professionally. Now I realized that my practice isn't just practicing hard to be a ballet dancer. I started to think a lot about my practice and areas of learning. Each person has different practices and thoughts about it. Practice makes me grow up and helps me to go one step further. It is essential to think about how to apply and connect other areas by using my practice area. Practice and seeing myself can always be based on everything and can be a weapon for many other areas.
While practicing we can think about:
(We can think about some experiences that we have got before)
- Time management (How we manage all the times to self-reflect)
- How do we find the harmony
- How we communicate
- How we socialize
- Self-care & Self-management
- Failing (Like in auditions and performances)
- Reflection of daily practice
- How do people around you influence you? How do their actions impact you?
(Could be family, friend, teacher who taught in the past or current, choreographers,
grandparents, company and agency)
Other people's or our actions can impact us. For example, it could be personal ethics because we get influence by people who are around us. We can think about some answers to some questions while self-practicing. What kind of style did we learn from them? Why did we get influence by them? and how did we get influence? We can get influenced and learn a lot from friends because they all have different practices and learned differently. So, while thinking about our practice, we can embody each of them. It is essential to look deeper history what we've had before. In my experience, I had a ballet teacher who I really got influenced by and learnt a lot from. She always said to me to not be too strict and be more open. I don't know why but this made my practice way useful and helped me to develop.
My practice was focused on techniques or doing the movements perfectly, but I learned that I could get more confidence and find my identity by self-reflecting. Also, I can discover who I am and think about what I want to be. I guess seeing myself and seeing my practice have such a strong power. These changed my thoughts and ethics a lot. And help me not only to think differently but also to think creatively.
Also, networking could be one of the areas. We can think about how we build and how do we look at networking. Also, we can think about what role does that play in our practice.
In conclusion, I now understand that it is important to understand who I want to be and what I want to achieve by understanding my practice. Ballet was almost everything in my life as I danced for eight years now. Dance made me who I am today. I was just so into being perfect when I was dancing, but now I know how to manage it after understanding myself and practice.
It was a good time to think deeply about my practice and could see myself better. Now, I kind of have the direction of my practice. I am very looking forward to understanding and discover my practice more and learn new things.
Thank you so muchπ
